Kappa Sushi is a hidden gem located in the heart of Pontocho, Kyoto’s most atmospheric and traditional dining district. This sushi bar is known for its exceptional sushi and its charming atmosphere. The restaurant is tucked away in a narrow alley and has a small sign, making it easy to miss if you’re not looking for it.
As you enter the restaurant, you’ll be greeted by the warm and welcoming ambiance of the wooden decor and soft lighting. The restaurant has a long counter with seating for about 12 people, which is perfect for those who want to experience the art of sushi-making up close.
At Kappa Sushi, we had an unforgettable experience sitting at the counter and watching the skilled chef prepare our sushi right in front of us. The chef was friendly and talkative, explaining each dish and answering any questions we had about the ingredients and preparation methods. We felt like we were getting a private sushi lesson from a master chef.
The menu at Kappa Sushi features a variety of sushi options. Each dish was beautifully presented, with the colors and textures of the ingredients perfectly balanced. The sushi was incredibly fresh and flavorful, and we could tell that the chef had put a lot of care and attention into each dish.
One of the highlights of our experience at Kappa Sushi was the conversation with the chef. He shared stories about his training and experiences as a sushi chef, and we learned so much about the history and culture of sushi. The chef’s passion for his craft was infectious, and we left the restaurant feeling inspired and grateful for the opportunity to learn from him.
